Q. Give a brief description about yourself and your company.

Khushboo Jain COO, and I (Piyush Jain) CEO are the co-founders of Impact Guru. ImpactGuru a tech-for-good platform that provides complete crowdfunding solutions to empower individuals, NGOs and social enterprises to raise funds for medical emergencies, personal needs, creative projects or any social cause – be it big or small. We aim to bring together generosity with need to maximise people’s potential to do good.

How has your entrepreneurial journey been so far?

We began our entrepreneurial career with a mission to help India’s people find crowdfunding solutions for healthcare, social change, and personal and creative projects. From raising Rs. 25 lakhs for a primary school teacher’s liver transplant, to weeks back having popular actress Sunny Leone setup a fundraiser on ImpactGuru to raise funds for her team member’s kidney transplant, all of this has been a wonderful journey for us.

How did you initiate Impact Guru?

When Khushboo and I began to ideate our own venture, we knew it had to be something that would let us pool OUR skill sets. My knowledge of finance and technology would have to be clubbed with the brand and communications skill sets Khushboo had garnered over the years. We were also keen on a business model that would let them add value and meaning to the community. Setting up a crowdfunding platform catered to all our interests and agendas. After weeks of deliberation, Khushboo quit her job in 2014 and we started working on ImpactGuru. While I was wrapping up my international work assignments, single-handedly Khushboo took up the role of strategy and operations of ImpactGuru.

What makes ImpactGuru different from other crowdfunding businesses?

We have built an AI-supported story builder for medical fundraisers, with a template for all campaigners to develop their own standardized campaign stories. We are the only crowdfunding platform to have our own story builder to help customers write great stories as it’s a major pain point in the industry today. We are also the first crowdfunding player in India to launch a smartphone app for customers with the Android app already available for download. The Android app presents the user with a quick view of their fundraiser, thus enabling them to keep track of the progress of the campaign, get real-time donation notifications, and post updates.

How much funding have you acquired till now from the investors?

We have raised USD $2.5 million in Seed and Series A equity investment rounds. The US$2mm in Series A round (May 2018) was co-led by Apollo Hospitals Group and Venture Catalysts.

What have been the highlights for your business?
– We have persuaded GlobalGiving.org, the world’s largest nonprofit crowdfunding platform to create an exclusive strategic partnership with us.
– We raised Rs. 51, 89,273 – the highest record, funds that went towards Riaa Kulkarni, a primary school student in Australia, found to have DIPG, fast developing brain cancer.
– Humans of Bombay put up a fundraiser on ImpactGuru on 11th September as 15-Year-Old Deekshit required funds for his mother’s rectal prolapse surgery. Deeekshit’s fundraiser surpassed the target goal of 15 lakhs in 3. 5 hours. A record at ImpactGuru!
– A track record at ImpactGuru of impacting over 100,000 lives, mobilizing over US$20mm / Rs.130crore across 15 countries and training over 1,000 nonprofits to crowdfund in last 4 years is our crowning achievements.
